Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Treatment
Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is most commonly associated with military service, but it can develop from any traumatic experience or series of experiences. For example, events such as car accidents, natural disasters, violent crime, or child abuse may cause the development of symptoms such as flashbacks, hypervigilance disturbed sleep patterns, depression, aggression, or loss of interest in daily activities. Over seven million Americans–children, teens, and adults–suffer from some level of PTSD, according to the National Institute of Mental Health.
The most conventional PTSD treatments are psychopharmacological (drug) therapy and psychotherapy (talking therapy). These therapies often address conditions that often accompany PTSD, such as panic disorder, anxiety, and depression. Calabasas Behavioral Health offers these treatments, and for those cases where these treatments are not the best fit, CBH also offers an alternative PTSD treatment called TMS.
TMS as a PTSD Treatment Option
An alternative approach to traditional PTSD treatment (talking therapy and drug therapy) is Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation. This method is often employed when patients do not respond well to drug therapies. TMS consists of short pulses of magnetic stimulation to the areas of the brain known to be involved in PTSD. This stimulation is not invasive to the body or systemic and is delivered to the patient while he or she is awake and alert. Contact our office or consult our website for more information about this alternative approach to PTSD treatment.
